Patient News: HCG Repackaging

“HCG” (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) medication is a frequently used medication for ovarian stimulation cycles for IVF and IUIs. “HCG” comes as a “generic” HCG, a branded HCG named “Pregnyl” and a branded HCG named “Novarel”. Depending upon the pharmacy of purchase, you may receive any of these packaging options.  It is important to please note however that there has been a recent change in the packaging of the “Novarel” branded HCG product. “HCG  generic” and “ Pregnyl” continue to be packaged in a 1 vial formulation of 10,000 units.  “Novarel” HCG brand however is now packaged in 5,000 unit vial formulations. Please note that if you are sent the “Novarel” branded box you will need to follow new specific instructions to accommodate this change –  as the Novarel vial is only 5,000 units (not 10,000 units). The Center has specific written instructions for the Novarel brand packing which will be provided to you. Please call your nurse if you have any questions. Your mail order pharmacy can also assist you with any questions.
